I've got a Whirlpool LXR6232E that stopped working this weekend mid cycle. It was filled with water and clothes but will not spin at all. I took the clothes out and bailed out most of the water. The agitator appears it wants to turn when I put it on the spin cycle, but it freezes up after moving ~ 1/4" inch.
What should I look for?

Hi. Most likely the problem is broken lid switch. Use the video clip fro the instructions. To check the switch open the control panel and install the jumper wire between two outer contacts at the disconnect plug. If the washer starts - replace the lid switch. The lid switch Part number: 3949247

Simon, could that still be the case if when I close the lid, or push down on the door sensor I can hear a humming noise, almost like the motor is trying to start under too much load, but there is no load and no movement? I know when the lid is up, no noise is being made at all.

Hi.
If the motor is humming when the lid is closed, than it's not the lid switch.
First make sure that the options switch is properly engaged.
Then remove the cabinet and bypass the lid switch.
Check the motor disconnect plug contacts and wires.
Check the start capacitor using the multimeter.(The rating is on the capacitor.)
Remove the drain pump from the motor shaft and check if the washer will run.
Pump may be jammed by something exotic like the sock or underwear.
Post the results.

Took off the pump because I noticed the water wasn't draining super fast. Found a sock and a bra underwire clogging the pump.
