I got this freezer from a friend because it stopped working.
When I plugged it in the compressor was running. The temp was about 6 when I turned the temp all the way up it stopped running. Turned the temp off and then back up to 3 when it shut off again. Turned temp off again then slowly increased the temp. The temp is turned all the way up and still running but wont get cold. Any ideas?

Since the compressor is running continuously and the unit does not get cold then it is probably a sealed system problem.
This will be an expensive repair as you need a pro.
In most cases it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit.

One caveat is that the condenser coils at the back of the unit must be clean.

You said "The temp was about 6".

If this was just the temperature adjustment setting then the above applies.
If this was the temperature inside the unit then it is getting cold.

6 Was the setting not the temp inside. Ran it for about an hour with temp all the way up. Freezer was still warm. So Should I try cleaning the coils or trash it. Thanks Ray

Unless the coils are very very dirty cleaning will not do anything.

Sounds like it is toast.
