My in-laws gave me a perfectly working upright freezer and I’m afraid I broke it. It was running so I unplugged it and transported it to my house approx. 15 min away. I laid it on it’s back (after researching I realize this was bad)…BUT I didn’t plug it in for a week because let it defrost and washed it out first. Once I finally plugged it in it sounded fine (compressor running) …but the next morning I realize it still wasn’t very cold (even though compressor still running). I stuck in a thermometer and it’s in the 40 degrees. I see frost build-up on the top row but then nothing on others. At one point I heard clicking so wondered if the starter relay broke in transit. The coils are in the wall. Basically only the compressor and relay relay connected on it’s side are the only things accessible below.
I’ve read in this forum about how to test so gonna take starter relay off tomorrow and test. But thought if starter relay was broke then freezer wouldn’t get cold at all…because compressor wouldn’t run. It’s a 2007 but in good shape…praying I haven’t ruined it. If my compressor is actually running…any other ideas of what i could have broke during transport?
