What happens & when:purchased a thermostat #wp2198202 terminal spades are at different locations . Which terminal does red wire go on bent or straight.

Original thermostat spades are top and bottom. New thermostat spades are side by side

As the thermostat is just a two-terminal open/close switch, the red wire can go on either of the two brass terminals and it will not make a difference.
