Wire connecting to defrost heater

Have determined I need to replace my defrost heater and that has been ordered. Heater was removed to determine if defective and replaced in freezer awaiting arrival of part. Unfortunately the heating element (which wasn’t working before!) heated up and came in contact with plastic clip and has melted the left side of the old heater (the plastic part where the left wire fits into.). Not worried about that as it is being replaced, but the heat did damage to the end of the blue wire that I will be attaching to the replacement unit when it arrives. My question is, can I splice a new end onto the now defective blue wire? The wire has the following numbers on it “125 C 600V VW1”. If yes, where do I find the wire/clip to do this? If that isn’t an option, what do I need to do? Could not find anything on parts list to show that wire.

Sharon,

Yes, you can “re tip” the wire,

You should be able to get a 1/4 inch, insulated, female spade wire terminal, at any local radio shack, or hardware store.

Good Luck,

Thanks Joe! That info did help. Replacement part arrived today and included a length of wire to splice onto blue wire so it could reach the newly designed heating unit with both plugs at one end. Install done and my freezer and fridge are chilling as I type! Thanks again! Sharon:)

Sharon,

Great Job,

We’re glad you’re up and running.
( I should have varified the part you needed, my bad).

Thanks for the update.

Good Luck,
