Window AC Unit/ Repair or Replace?

I have a brand new (installed through the wall) Frigidaire FAH106R1T. It seemed to be collecting condensation which caused a spray inside through the blowing fan. I attempted to drill a drainage hole and drilled into the enclosed coolant system. Is it worth having someone out to repair or bite the bullet and buy a new unit?

No, in most cases, it’s not worthwile to try to repair this type of problem.

The tubing is very thin in these window units and it would be very difficult to solder the hole without melting the tubing around the hole. They are required to be very efficient and in trying to make them as efficient as possible, which is why the tubing is so thin.

Many of these units also don’t have service ports which means the repairman would also have to solder a port into the system which is another point where the tubing could melt while the port is being soldered in, and also makes just 1 more point where the freon could leak out.

Good luck.
