The lower agitator on my washer has stripped out so it’s no longer agitating. I took it out to confirm this is the case. If I push down on it while it is on agitate cycle, it will work and seems to be rotating fully. So I’ve ordered the part and will replace it shortly.
However, when it is on the agitate cycle, it is not quiet. There seems to be a hum from the motor. It’s not gear grind or anything like that but just a hum. I have had the washer on its side to inspect the bottom. Everything looks good there: the belt looks almost new and tight, the splutch clutch looks fine, the actuator, etc. I actually replaced the actuator as that was suspected prior to finding the stripped agitator, but the old one did not appear broken either. So I’m wondering if this hum is normal or not? I’m wondering if this is maybe a motor capacitor or winding issue? Or maybe the gear box is super stiff and straining the motor? The machine spins at high speed just fine.
Has anyone experienced a similar humming noise during agitation? Any opinions on this?
Thanks
