Whirlpool won't fill w/ Water, skips to agitate/wash cycle.

My Whirlpool Washer stated intermitently skipping the fill cycle and moving directly to the agitate/wash cycle. I believe the rinse cycle is avoided as well. Started noticing the problem a couple of weeks ago, and it first seemed to be remedied by switching the water level knob from “small” to “medium,” then the agitator would stop and the tub began to fill. Sometimes the problem would not be present at all and the machine would work properly. Now the problem has worsened to the point where at any wash setting the machine will not fill but jumps to the agitate/wash cycle.

The hoses are not kinked or clogged, neither are the screens. Since it will at times fill with water after messing w/ the H20 level knob, I believe the water inlet valve is working properly. Is it the H20 level switch that is bad, or is the timer not sending power to the H20 inlet valve to open to allow the machine to fill?

Hi,

The end of the air tube that runs from the water level pressure switch to the bottom of the wash tube maybe plugged.

You might have a bad water level switch. I would remove the plastic hose from the bottom of the tub that goes to the water level switch. Blow gently in it. If the switch never makes a clicking noise, replace it.
If ok, I would re-attach it to the tub, remove it from the water level switch and blow in it to clear soap residue in it, then force some vinegar down it with a turkey baster, should fix it. Water level switch AP3019752

I think that the water level switch may be toast.

It sounds like the contacts in the switch are sticking in the actuated position so the unit thinks it is full of water when in reality it is empty.
