We ordered part number WH12X1022 (Timer Asm) but when I take the screws out of the existing assembly, I can’t get the dial to release the part on back of the washer panel. Any tips or tricks would be helpful. Diagrams or instructions would be great since we got nothing with the part!

Hi and thanks for the quick reply. It’s GE WJSR2080TSWW. Got panel off, cable harness & screws but can’t get timer separated from the knob on front of the panel. I know there must be a release here somewhere… just dont’ want to break it. Margaret:confused:
I have a GE WJSR208oTSWW washing machine - SN 149348G. We ordered part from you. Location: 4E3204 Make:GEH Part Number WH12X1022. Description Timer ASM. I have the top control panel off just fine and the old timer assembly ready to remove but can’t get the knob to release from the front of control panel where it’s attached at the center to the timer assembly on back. There’s got to be a release somewhere but I can’t find it. Just need help in locating the release. Thank you! Margaret

Here is the timer removal instructions from the service manual :
To Remove Timer
Timers are not technician serviceable. If found to be faulty replace the entire timer- timer/motor assembly.
Timers are model specific and only fit the model it’s designed to fit.
- Remove timer knob assembly, timer dial assembly,and spring clip from
timer shaft.
(you need to pull the timer knob off the timer shaft.
carefully remove the plastic clip from the timer shaft.
slide the timer dial and ring / spacer off the timer shaft).

Protect finish on cover and lid by covering with a towel, remove control
panel torx screws, and rest switch trim assembly on the cover tabs for
support. -
Remove harness from timer.

Remove one 1/4" hex screw that attaches timer to switch trim support.
Timer is held in place with two locking tabs under bracket. Move timer
to the left. -
Reverse steps to replace timer.
Here is the part location screen, so you will have a better visual idea of the removal process.

Okay, I understand all that but it doesn’t answer my question. I can get parts 6, 7, 8, & 9 (the knob, essentially) to separate from the timer shaft (#100 in diagram). There’s got to be a release lever somewhere. I have the pin out but how do I get the knobs to come off the timer shaft?

The part in parenthesis below #1 in the instructions you sent proved remarkably important! That was the critical piece of information I was missing. It said “plastic clip” and I got to thinking “I’ve seen no plastic clip.” Upon prying the two parts of the outer knob assembly apart, indeed there is a small plastic clip holding it all together. It’s very difficult to get to but once I figured out where it was I got the plastic clip pushed out, the knob came apart properly and then separated from the timer shaft on the back of the panel. The plastic clip was essential and should’ve been shown in the diagram but wasn’t. I guess they don’t want people repairing these things themselves! It took me under five minutes to remove the old part, install the new timer assembly, reattach the ground wire and the whole wiring harness, and put the control panel back in place on my washer.
Truly, they should add mention to the plastic clip in the instructions and actually include instructions with the part they mail customers! Thanks for your help! You’ve turned my :mad: into
