Whirlpool washer WTW4816FW3 agitator problems bolt/washer not a fit?

Brand: Whirlpool
**Model Number:**WTW4816FW3
Main Symptom: No agitation
What happens & when: Bolt spins, but doesn’t catch anything to agitate

About a month ago, my agitator bolt came loose and the machine stopped agitating. I witnessed this by running with the lid open and hearing the agitation noises, but agitator wasn’t spinning. I tightened the bolt and all was good. Then it happend again, and again.

Last week I ordered new parts:
W10772621 Whirlpool Washplate Bolt
WP3949550 Whirlpool Agitator Bolt Washer
WP285809 Whirlpool Washer Agitator Dogs Cam Kit

I installed the parts, but when I test with the lid open I still don’t get any agitation. The bolt spins strongly, but it doesn’t seem to “catch” the plastic cam with the dogs on it. It looks like there’s very little surface area where the bolt and washer actually contact the cam kit - I can actually pull the bolt/washer through the hold in the cam kit. Is that small contact area really supposed to drive the whole agitator?

I feel like I’m missing something in the re-assembly that transfers power from the bolt to the agitator. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, with no water in the tub, you should be able to reach down and turn the top part of the agitator one way; the bottom will not turn until you ratchet the top the other way, that is when the dogs grip the inside of those teeth. If you could send me a video, it would help me understand a little better as to what you are seeing.

Thanks for the reply, yes the top part of the agitator will engage the bottom just fine, its that the motor doesn’t turn the agitator via the screw. Video is here: https://youtube.com/shorts/KezqyhZg9GE
