We have a whirlpool automatic two/three speed washing machine that we bought from Sears about 16 years ago…serial number CD 1287775 and model number LSR 523 3 AWO. The washer has stopped automatically switching to the next cycle. I had been able to push/SLAM down the lid to get it to go to the next cycle manually, but that it isn’t working any more. now the machine doesn’t switch to the next cycle…usually rinse/spin…when I turn the dial and pull it out??? HELP…I have a machine filled with a load of clothes and soapy water. WHAT SHOULD I DO???

Sounds like the problem I had and I had to replace the timer.
Well we replaced the timer in our Whirlpool 2 speed washing machine ( it is 16 years old) because it wasn’t switching from cycle to cycle. It would start washing when turned on…then stop before rinsing. We would slam the lid, turn the dial, but it wouldn’t switch to the rinse cycle until we closed the lid and fiddled with the knob over and over. Then once it went to the rinse cycle “manually”…it would cut off before going to the spin cycle…then when it did go to the spin cycle…it didn’t spin enough water out. Since it’s not the timer…could it be the lid switch??? HELP!!!
