The grease seems to be coming from the agitator - at the top (where the fabric softener cup would go - i don’t use this, so don’t keep it on). ANy ideas how to fix this? Can i fix myself or is it better to call someone…?
THANKS

Its most likely not GREASE, I would suspect undesolved soap, Fill the washer with HOT water, add 1 cup of calgon water softner and 1 cup of clear household amonia, (no clothing) let it go through a COMPLETE CYCLE, Repeat again, this will take care of your problem!!! The reason I say its not oil or grease is because oil can not run 15" UP-HILL, The transmission is way in the bottom of the machine, and its the ONLY part with oil or grease in it!!! Good Luck!!!
Since oil is lighter than water, wouldn’t any leaking oil product float to the top and deposit on the clothes and agitator top? Anyway, I am currently trying your suggestion with CLR and ammonia since I couldn’t find Calgon. After that I’ll try several washloads and watch for stains.
