Whirlpool washer drive block replacement

Brand: whirlpool
Model Number: wtw4800bq1
Main Symptom: drive block fit
What happens & when:

I just completed a transmission replacement, and now trying to finished reassembly. I purchased a replacement drive block, tub nut, and agitator to go with fresh transmission.

All of the guides I can find show drive blocks requiring some force to install or uninstall. My replacement can easily be put on/off transmission shaft with little to no friction.

Visually it’s the same size and dimensions as oem, and had the same part number.

After tightening the tub nut, I can lift the entire tub + tub nut + and drive block of transmission shafr easily in one combined piece. I presumed the tub nut would have prevented me from doing this.

Could the drive block I ordered be out of spec vs OEM if I can take it off/on so easily? I have the impression it should be press fit tight.

I am concerned continuing to install new agitator and starting a spin cycle could damage the new transmission or damage splines on new agitator base.

Did you order an OEM drive block or aftermarket? Lots of aftermarket parts are not made to the same specs. Once it’s properly assembled you should NOT be able to pull the assembled unit off the trans shaft

No. I ordered a replacement and don’t have the issue any longer

OEM replacement didn’t have this problem

Yeah that’s a pretty common story about non oem
