whirlpool washer control knob replacement

The control knob on my washer broke and I ordered a new one from Appliance Parts Pros. I have the new part, but the stem of the old knob is stuck inside the control assembly. How do I safely remove the broken stem?

Are you saying that the shaft from the control panel is broken off and stuck inside the knob and that you ordered a new knob?

Does the new knob have a shaft sticking out of it? If not, then the shaft is probably part of the control panel interface. Unless there is a short shaft the leads to the interface. I see it has a part called an adaptor part no. AP4324919. Perhaps that is it.

The old knob has a stem or post that has broken off and is stuck inside the control panel on the washer. I can’t install the new knob until I can remove the broken piece. I’ve tried removing it with pliers and even using a screw to try pulling it out. It is just stuck too tightly.

I tried to find a picture of the “adaptor” part, never did find one. If it is the shaft that is broken, its probably either trapped between the board and the back of the control panel or its part of the board. You’ll need to take the control panel apart to find out. Good luck.
