Whirlpool wash basket replacement

Machine makes knocking noise when wash basket turning much louder during spin. A repair technician that was looking at my refrigerator diagnosed the problem as a broken spine on the back of the basket. He also said changing the basket in this model was a bear, involving opening the outer drum. Was seeking a second opinion on what changing the basket in this model involved?
