I have a Whirlpool side-by-side The freezer coils were covered in ice. I put the freezer into defrost mode using the digital controls.
The defrost mode worked well. The clip that held the thermister was cracked so I zipped tied it. The temps were good for a month. Now I have frosting again and lower temps. The freezer is not entering auto defrost mode. What will be my next steps. Thanks in advance
Take that thermistor WPW10384183 out, put it in a glass of ice water for 5-10 minutes and check the resistance value. Should be about 8.8kΩ at 32°F. If that’s good you probably have an issue with the evaporator harness W11545823 or main control board W11449482.
You can test the harness by taking it out and reconnecting the thermistor to it and making sure you read the same resistance value at the thermistor and at the 2 pink wires on the other end of the harness.
