We are trying to replace the defrost timer in our refrigerator and can’t seem to get the control cover off. I’m talking about the white plastic part in the top of the refrigerator section that has the knobs that adjust how hot and cold the frig and freezer are.
We got all the screws off, but the plastic cover that houses the control board is attached to the top of the frig with a very smooth seam. Is there a trick to get it off?
Thanks in advance for any help!
I am having the same problem. I can’t get the top housing off that houses the thermostat and PCA. I have taken out all the screws but it still doesn’t come off. I shined a flashlight up there while looking through the left freezer door control hole and I can see a screw that is screwed though the bracket into the top of the fridge cabinet. I cannot figure out how get to this screw.
I figured it out. The front of the housing has a face plate on it. Take a small flat head screw driver and wedge it behind the face plate starting from the right hand side of the refrigerator. The whole face plate should unsnap easily at this time. You will then see two screws holding the assembly to the top of the fridge. Remove these screws along with the two screws in the back and the assembly will drop down. The only 4 screws you need to remove are the ones that use a nut driver. None of the other screws need to be removed.
