We found the Whirlpool range GW395LEGQ6 already set up for propane and it is perfect for our mountain cabin…but when firing up the oven in Bake mode, the control panel indicates the preheat is on. Sometimes it heats right up and other times it stalls at this point. We can sometimes get it to work by recycling the controls and even opening and closing the oven door. Then when being particularily difficult, it will just fire off by itself after some time which varies. The ignitor is glowing strong through all of this. Maybe a sticking valve??? or ??? Appreciate any help!
Even the Bake igniter does glow it still can be bad because the igniter has to draw proper amount of current in order to open the gas valve. You can measure it and if the reading is 3.2 Amps or less then the igniter has to be replaced.

Hi Gene and thanks for your reply and help. Could you give me some quidance on checking for this 3.2 amps. I have a good multimeter and a clamp-on amp meter. Would I hook it up “in-line” with one of the leads or use a clamp on amp meter? Thanks again! Andy

Hi Andy,
A clamp on is good enough. Put it on one of the two igniter wires and turn the oven On.

Just wanted to say “thank you” for you help. I did put the clamp-on ampmeter on the ignitor and found that when the oven is turned on the amperage starts at 3.2 and immediately drops to 2.9, where it stays. So I’ve ordered a new ignitor. Again…you help is much appreciated by both me …and the wife!
