Main Symptom: rinse and spin cycles will not start spinning drum
What happens & when: when entering either the rinse or spin cycle the drum does not spin, once I lift the lid, there is a bell type ding noise, And I see the drum move just a bit, then I close the lid and the washer proceeds as normal
. NOTE: this does not happen every time just most times

I have replaced the pump, the lid switch, the dog agits, and the direct drive coupler. This was however, all prior to the issue.

I have read on one of the forums here of the same issue, and all discussions pointed to it being the timer, including Google AI by the way. (I’m pretty sure they got that from your site though)
The problem being there was never a solution proposed on the forum that worked. What I’d really like to know, is what is the bell ding sound when I lift the lid? My timer pauses as it should, at the correct times, but perhaps not for the appropriate amount of time?
This washing machine is very old, (1980-ish?) and works very well, I would rather deal with the issue than replace it with one of these new computerized plastic washers hidden inside of a steel body.

That noise you’re hearing is most likely just the cycle indicator buzzer. When the washer is supposed to be in spin, does it at least pump the water out? That’s a good clue—if it drains, then we know the motor is at least getting voltage.

It seems like the washer’s timer or lid switch may be malfunctioning. The bell sound likely indicates a pause caused by the timer or switch not fully engaging. Since it’s intermittent, check the timer’s contacts for wear, recheck the lid switch for consistent contact, and inspect the motor and belt for issues. If everything else is in good shape, these fixes may solve the problem without needing a replacement.

Yes it drains, also I replaced the pump a few weeks ago, it was leaking. Original pump by the way.

I thought the same thing about the switch, so I replaced it a couple weeks ago when I replaced the pump.
Everything really does work perfectly especially after changing the dog agits.
This is the only problem that I’m having.

Correction. When I replaced it. not so I replaced it. In other words I thought I did something wrong.

After the washer drains for a little while, the motor voltage should pause briefly and then kick back up—that pause is what lets the transmission shift out of neutral and into spin. Do you notice that pause happening?

Also, if you pull the agitator out, is the tub nut snugged down tight? Those two checks are pretty easy to do and can give us a good idea of where to go from here.
