Whirlpool Icemaker Valve Leak

Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: WRF767SDHZ
Main Symptom: valve leak
What happens & when:

The red valve (one of three) on this water inlet valve W11399627 located at the top of the fridge is dripping when the solenoid is activated. This line apparently feeds the bottom ice maker. POOR Quality Control at Whirpool. I had to have a tech come out under warranty to properly plug in the water supply feed line shown on the left of the first photo. Was my unit manufactured on a Friday at 4:45 pm? LOL/SMH

I used special round pliers to attempt to remove the supply hose to the red valve by pressing on the red collar and pulling the hose out. It would not budge with a moderate amount of force. Thus, I tried pushing the hose in to ensure it is seated properly. None of that made a difference, and I could never tell the hose actually moved with respect to the valve.

Am I correct in assuming this valve is of the type that you simply push the hose in to connect, and push on the collar and pull on the hose to remove it?

Error Code (if any): none

Hello, yes, this is what is referred to as a John Guest connection. You push it in hard to get it to seat, you push in the collar while pulling the tube out to remove it. The thing you need to remember is that you need to relieve any pressure on that line before you try and remove it. Any water pressure on that line makes it extremely difficult to remove.

Thank you so much! I turned the water supply off and still not able to move the tube. I think I need to exercise the solenoid to ensure pressure is off. I’ll look for the commands to do that.

Update. I downloaded the maintenance tech codes and exercised the icemaker valve to fully release the pressure and BINGO - the connector came out. Interestingly, it was gouged out in several places. I got some sandpaper and smoothed the surface out and reconnected - seems to work!
