I have a Whirlpool refrigerator that the ice dispensor quit working. There is no sound like a motor trying to work, the piece that turns to dispense the ice is ok and will turn free, when removed from unit.
The unit makes and and dispenses water fine, everything else works fine.
Any Advice?
Charlie
Hi Charlie,
What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?
Gene.
Gene,
The Model is ED5FHEXLQ00
Manufacture Date 06-02
I appreciate any help!
Charlie
Charlie,
Did the ice gate in the door open when you push the ice lever?
Did you hear a click when you tried to get an ice cubes?
Gene.
Gene,
The door does open and there is no sound at all. Not even a click, it woud be no different unpluging the fridge and testing it.
Charlie
Charlie,
Remove the ice bin and the bracket (#1 on the break down diagram).
Remove the wires from the motor and check the motor for continuity.
Check for 120VAC to the motor while the dispenser calls for ice and the door light switch depressed.
Post the results.
Gene.
Gene,
Thank you for the information. I will do this on Sunday. I’ll let you know what happens.
Thanks,
Charlie
I am having a very similar problem with my Whirlpool icemaker - makes ice just fine but won’t dispense crushed or cubed. When pressing the pad, it makes a noise that sounds like a low hum (has always made this noise) and then nothing follows.
Model # GF6NFFXTY00
Serial # SU1131453
Mark,
I am going to try to trouble shoot mine Sunday. Are you sure the low hum is not the sound of the cold air you can here when you push the dispensor. Also our flap (that makes the seal) makes a funny noise as it closes.
Charlie
Mark,
The model number you posted does not come up. Verify and repost it.
Gene.
Sorry about that - Hard to tell the E’s from the F’s when they are sitting on the bar code.
Try this - GF6NFEXTY00
Remove the ice bin and check the coupling (#25 on the break down diagram).
Follow the troubleshooting instructions in the In-door ice system service manual.
Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool refrigerator Model GF6NFEXTY00
