All of a sudden our ice maker is not working. There is ice in tray but not releasing it. I looked at other posts and it was suggested to check the voltage between L and N and it should read 120 and the reading I got was 115 volts. I also tried to jump it by putting a wire in N and M, but nothing happened. I am thinking I need a new motor. Do you agree? Also how hard is a new motor to install. I unscrewed the three "removal"phillips-heads in the corners and could not easily pull the face off and I didn’t want to force anything. Thanking you in advance for any advice.
The result of the voltage test to the ice maker (“L” & “N” test points) shows that there is proper voltage to the ice maker. You don’t need to perform more tests in such situation because if there is proper voltage then the ice maker itself has gone bad.
The old ice maker is not worth any repairs for two reasons.
First: the rate on success for such repairs is relatively low.
Second: you can buy a new ice maker from APP for such refrigerator for almost the same price as a repair part. For example, price for the control module (Whirlpool does not sell the motor separate) is $57.39, compare for the new ice maker price of $57.63.
You have to use the head cover and the shut off arm from the old ice maker.
