Whirlpool Gold - Dual burner stuck on high

I have a Whirlpool Gold AccuBake 465 smooth top range. I have a dual burner on the front left that has gotten stuck on high. No matter if I turn it on the lowest setting, it heats to high. Usually the burners will turn red and fade in and out as the burner is on and heating. Now I notice the burner stays lit the whole time. Can anyone offer help on how my handy husband can look into fixing this for me?

Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

You probably have a stuck or shorted infinite burner switch.

But we need a model number to research and varify that.

I looked the range all over before I could find that model number! Finally, I found the sticker and it is: model GR460LXKT

If it is a infinite burner switch, is this accessed from the rear panel?

Thanks again!!

You can access it from the back, but thats the hard way to go.

Actually, you access it from the front of the control panel.

First , turn off the power to the unit, or unplug the power cord

Remove the screws across the top back, and the bottom corner front screws and “peel” the panel off towards the front.

Remove the knob and the 2 screws, that hold the switch to the panel

Switch wires, 1 at a time, and reverse procedure to reinstall panel and test.

I believe this will be the switch you need.

Thanks, Joe for your help. I will show this info to my husband when he gets home tonight! Hope this takes care of it!!

As long as there’s no broken or shorted wires,

I’m sure the new switch will solve the problem.

If you (he) need us again,

Don’t hesitate to drop us a line.

Joe M. APP TEAM,

I have a model # GR460LXKT with a dual burner issue. While on low (2) continues to heat at high. Removed the back cover and found Inf-switch (blue) with part number 8522887 stamped on it. What is the correct switch to order, AP3777761 (blue) or AP3086276?

Best regards,

PKJohnson

PK,

Your dual element switch for the Left Front element should be,

AP6014074

Remember:

Turn power off to the range,
Remove the knob and switch for the panel,
Switch wires from the old, to the new switch,
Install new switch to control panel,
Restore power and test burner/switch operation.

Good Luck,

I am on the forum with a similar question and am guessing the solution is the same. My burner stays on intermittently. It works at low or medium and then sticks on high.

Is this the same infinite switch replacement?

RavenArtist,

Yes, the infinite control switch is the most likely issue, based on your post description.
If your range has the sane model number, and the issue is in the left rear “dual” burner, then yes, the switch posted here will solve the issue.
If you prefer, supply us wih the model number of your range and which burner is at fault, and we’ll be happy to research, and advise you of the correct part number needed.

Thanks,

Henry, The part number for the left front “dual” element infinite switch is AP6014074. There is a “basic” how to video attached to the part number in the AppliancePartsPros.com parts screen. it will give you a rough idea what all is involved in the replacement of the switch. Good Luck, and Thanks,

I have a similar issue on a whirlpool RF364LXMT (old model) 4 burner range. The front left burner is getting stuck on high also. What would I need to fix this please?

Thanks!

Eibyer, You will also want to start with a new burner infinite switch. The part number AP6007658, would be the part to order for the left front 2000 watt burner. The parts diagram also has a similar video with the basic replacement information.
** Make sure you remove power to the range before you start any repairs.**
The part is in stock and available at this time through AppliancePartsPros.com . Good Luck and Thanks,

Much appreciated! Thanks.

You’re Very Welcome !!!

Good Luck, and Thanks Again

Front left burner only stays on high. Model # GR440LXMP
Front left burner only stays on high. Model # GR440LXMP
Shollins, You would want to start with a new dual element infinite switch AP6014074 for the left front burner element. Most likely the internal contacts have melted or shorted together and aren’t allowing the burner to cycle off and on to control the heat.
