Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer randomly shuts off

Brand:Whirlpool
Model Number:WRX986SIHZ02
Main Symptom:Randomly shuts off
What happens & when: November 2024 unit was off. It had power, due to the HMI panel on the water dispenser working. But all interior lights were off, as well as all of the other functions of unit. Going through warranty process and 3 days later, I heard it running. Opened door, and sure enough. Claims company still allowed for unit replacement, so we picked out a replacement, and designated this one to the basement for our overflow unit. Since then, it does that same thing (surprise) where it’ll randomly be off. Likely a half a dozen times since the initial issue. I will unplug it, open and close all of the doors (due to being curious if it is a door switch issue) and plug it back in, and typically, that works to get it to function again. Until yesterday (11-10-25) it never had the door open indicator lit up. I went to grab something from the fridge, it was off. I unplugged, plugged back in, and the door open light was on, wouldn’t shut off. I manually triggered the 2 main door switches, and the middle drawer switch, interior lights stayed on, so that quick test didn’t prove anything. I ended up unplugging the unit, let it sit for about a minute and plugged back in. And it was functioning properly. What are your thoughts? Control board, or faulty door switch?

With all functions of the unit not working, this will most likely be an issue with the main control board. W10843055 Refrigerator Control Board | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock

Thank you for that! Any idea how to replace? I have read in a few different forums that with the center drawer, the main control board location is a pain to get to.

The main control board is on the back of the unit and you would simply need to pull the unit out and take the board cover off to replace.
