Whirlpool Duet Washer F8 Code

This morning my wife started the washer but forgot to turn on the water. About 10 minutes into the cycle the F8 E1 error code came up. I immediately saw that the water was off and turned it on. It sounded like the pump started running. I pushed the off button and pushed it again (as suggested in the manual). The pump still kept on running. After a couple of minutes I unplugged it and waited then plugged it back in again. The pump (or what sounds like a pump) still keeps running and now none of the buttons do anything. The door is also locked. I have left the machine unplugged but still can’t get the door open to remove the clothes.
This machine is less than a month old! (Grrrr). Any quick fixes out there? Reset buttons? Reboot options?

FYI, I called Whirlpool service since my machine was under warranty. The service guy came and I watched him reset the control panel, which on my machine was responding to nothing. He pushed “Wash Temp”, “Spin”, “Soil” three times in a row. The control panel magically came to life again with the error code which was cleared and, voila, working machine.
The problem seems to have been that the installers put the discharge tube too far down the drain and, when my wife forgot to turn on the water, the machine sucked up water from the trap below (yuck).
Another tip he gave me was that on this Whirlpool model WFW70HEBW the pump runs for about 10 minutes when the machine is plugged in. So if your power goes off and comes back on, don’t be surprised if the machine seems to start on its own. It will go off after literally 10 minutes which seems like a lifetime when you’re standing there watching it.

I know this was an old post but the info helped a bunch. I inadvertently left the cold water spigot off and my wife did a load of wash. Error message and locked front. The Wash temp, Spin , Soil 3 times reset worked. I don’t know when a series of beeps sounded so good and knowing that the drain cycle for 10 minutes was part of the reset set my mind at ease. Thanks for sharing

If it is less than one month old it should be under factory warranty.

Thank you so much, Don. I had the same issue today. When I called customer care, they gave me an appointment 5 days from now. I was worried as my clothes are stuck in the washer. This really helped and it worked for me. Thank you so much !!! :slight_smile:

All,
Called customer service, totally useless got disconnected twice, “We can’t call you back”. Gave me a totally different reset code that didn’t work. Your code above WORKED GREAT. To clarify, push “wash temp”, then “spin” then “soil”, do that three times. Machine came to life, I had to wait 10 minutes for the drain pump to stop before I could clear the code and get the machine working again. WRITE DOWN YOUR SERIAL NUMBER, before you have problems, because after, you can’t open the door!!! (unless you use the above, very helpful information). THANKS AGAIN, AND THANKS APPLIANCEPARTSPROS, for helping the working man.:smiley:

This magic code worked for me a few weeks ago :slight_smile: when we encountered the same issues described above on our 14-month old washer… this was after my wife spent over 1 1/2 hours on the phone with two different folks at Whirlpool – the last person even went as far as telling us to schedule a service call.

Last week I wrote to Whirlpool to tell them that I was not very happy with the advice that they had provided. I got an answer back today and they claimed that they were “not aware of a ‘magic code’ that would reboot your Whirlpool washer back to a working state.” I find that really amazing (and frightening).

I hope others find this solution before spending money on service calls.

THANKS,
/jeff

Thanks guys just bought a maytag and forgot to turn on water. Did the steps 3 times. Works perfectly

Just wanted to add my voice in agreement–the magic button sequence worked! Thanks for posting that, undoubtably saved me a service call! fyi, I also had to wait 10 minutes for the drain sequence to finish. (Wasn’t sure it was ever going to stop!)

Thanks to Don for the code on the F8 E1 code reset- Did the words three times and it started working again. I appreciate it so much as we don’t have the extra money to pay a repairman!! I just don’t know what caused it to lock. If it has to do with the below zero temps and water wasn’t coming in? Thanks so much DON!!!

I used the code the other day to get the whirlpool duet to start. Today same thing washer won’t fill up and code isn’t working. It was below zero last night do you think its just the pipes?

Our Duet washer had the same exact symptom and this solution worked. For others searching, here are my model numbers

This was a life saver. Well, a service call saver. Thanks for posting.

The “magic code” worked like a champ. My washer went down yesterday and I couldn’t figure out how to reset it. Error codes were F8 and E1. Turns out the cold water was shut off. Turned on the cold water, unplugged the washer and let it sit for a bit. Re-plugged in and nothing but a humming noise. This morning I started the “research” phase solution and came across this site. Read the post and applied the fix. All is well with the washer now. Thanks for this solution as I can’t afford the cost of a service repair at this point.

Went on vacation for two weeks and closed the water to the washer as a precaution. When we came back, my wife and I forgot and when she put the clothes in the washer, the F8-E1 codes came on with a beep. Tried the reset sequence in this thread and it worked like magic. Thank you very much for the information. It saved us a lot of time and money.

The sequence worked for me too, but now that the pump has stopped pumping, I still can’t reset the code.

This “magic code” was a life saver!! We went on vacation and turned the water off. My son tried to wash clothes when we got home before the water was turned back on. The code worked! It did take us a couple of tries. We reset the controls but then couldn’t get the power button to work. After unplugging and going through the process a second time it worked after removing and reloading the clothes. Can’t believe we called the Maytag service number and they couldn’t help us. I would have been pretty upset if I had paid someone to come and press a couple of buttons!!

Hi all;

I have the same problem as described above yet the front panel does not “come alive”. I need further clarification regarding the procedure of “pushing the buttons”, or informed if there is a different re-boot code. I do not have buttons and have a flat panel with sensors under the “words” (ie “Wash Temp”).

My model number is WFW72HEDW0. I live in Canada and am not sure if this is specific to Canadian models.

note: when I use the word “Hold” it means to press and not release the “button”.

Here is what I did;
1- Press the “Wash Temp” button, hold, then ADD “Spin”, hold, then ADD “Soil”. Release than repeat this process again 2 more time for a total of 3 times. OR

2- Press the “Wash Temp” button, release, press “Spin”, release, then press “Soil” release. Than repeat this process again 2 more time for a total of 3 times.

Note, I disconnected the power for 2 minuets between these processes.

Also, the “Door Locked” LED is flashing whenever the machine is plugged in.

The whole time the machine is making a “draining type” sound while connected to power and the front panel does not “Come Alive”.

Thanks for any help

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! You saved me a call to repair service for my new machine too. Tried the code and it’s working!!

I usually don’t reply to post like these. But I am forever grateful I did. We like about 50 miles from where we bought our whirlpool duet washer. My husband didn’t turn on the hoses for me and they were backwards. I went to start the quick cycle and got an f08 e01 error. Out washer wasn’t even a day old. I called whirlpool and couldn’t get someone out here for a few days. It doesn’t help that we live in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, I came a cross this post as was hesitant about trying the reset buttons. I’m glad I did. I used the exact buttons mentioned in the original post. And now my washer is working again. I wanted to write a reply since the original post was older to let people know it works!! We have a whirlpool duet steam washer with direct drive motor. And it worked !!

Bruce, not sure is you fixed your issue already. I just pressed the 3 buttons one right after each other. Don’t hold. Do it three times in a row. Then it will come alive. Hope it helps.
