Whirlpool Duet washer door not locking.

Hi all,

I have a Whirlpool Duet 9400 (GHW9400PL2) washing machine.
Last night I may have filled it will too many bulky items. It started its spin cycle, was unbalanced and wobbled across the room, this lasted maybe 60seconds. It stop abruptly when the door was flung open.

Since I have unloaded the washer and I put a smaller load in but the door won’t lock no matter how hard I push. The machine will run if I fool the washer into thinking the door is closed by pushing the button but I can not get the door to close.

My best “layperson” guess is that when the door popped open last from being unbalanced the lock mechanism stayed locked and now I can get it to unlock.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you will take off the bottom lower panel you can reach up under the front panel on the right side until you find a “tab” hanging down. Pull gently on this and the door lock mechanism will release.

This may not solve your problem, in which case a new door lock mechanism may be needed.

I have done this repair a few times, but this time nothing seems to work. You can hear the solenoid clicking, but not locking the door. Is there any way to test the door lock to determine if it is actually the source of the problem?
