Whirlpool Duet washer dead control panel

I accidentally unplugged our Whirlpool Duet washer. The washer was empty and not running at the time. When I plugged it back in, the control panel was dead and a fast clicking noise was coming from the top of the washer. I tried unplugging it again, and plugging it back in; I also tried flipping the fuse switch in the garage and flipping it back. Nothing seems to work. I can’t even get it to start a diagnostic sequence. Nothing lights up in the control panel.

Anyone else have this problem? How to fix?

Thanks!

Sounds like the main control unit is blown, which shouldn’t happen but . . .

Use a meter to check that you have current. Then try changing it out. If you buy from this site and that is not the problem you can return it.

Thanks for your reply! We’ll try that. We initially suspected the CCU, not the MCU, since the clicking sound seems to be coming from the front right-hand corner on the top of the machine. Would a failure in the MCU be responsible for the CCU making noises too?

Also, just wanted to confirm that you’re suggesting we check the MCU to see whether current runs through it properly. (I wasn’t sure whether this was what you meant by using the meter to check for current.)

Right, use the meter to make certain current is getting to the washer and then you will use it to check the MCU.

Right. We’ll do that. Do you know whether the repair manual for this unit is available on line? Thanks!

Do a search for Whirlpool manual L-68 which is for an earlier version of your machine. You should be able to download it for free or for a nominal cost. I don’t know if there is a service manual for the later models.

correction, L-78. Check to make sure that is for the Duet Sport which is what I think you have.

My Whirlpool duet washer front loader is dead no lights no noise tried plugging unplugging nothing what do you think
