Whirlpool duet leaking from detergent dispenser

My Whirlpool duet sport washer is leaking from the detergent dispenser. Can’t figure out how to fix any suggestions? It happens as soon as I turn on the washer when it fills initially.

Miaec,

Where does it leak from ?

I presume, from the dispenser drawer, front area ?

Have you removed the drawer and checked for a clog in the fill hole in the bottom of the housing ?

Or clogs or debris in the back of the housing, where the water enters the dispenser ?

Have you looked or checked to see that the unit is level, and not lower in the front ?

Do or did you have any fail codes in the display ?

If all those checks are OK, you may have a bad diverter assembly, but I’d expect to see a fail code as well,

I’m pretty sure, you’ll find something in the bottom of the housing, if you have the type leak, I think you have.

Good Luck,

Had similar issue, but first sign of trouble was loud grinding noise near top, front left of unit. Probably was the dispenser Actuator as the manual calls it.

Turns out that a sock was lodged in the Dispenser to Tub Hose.

Easy to get to:

1)remove toe panel at bottom of unit
2)remove control panel - 2 screws (1 recessed on left middle side -hex- and another at the bottom middle of the control panel just above the door
3)remove the four screws of the door panel - you can leave the bellow in place for the repair
4)remove the Dispenser to Tub Hose -the thicker black hose that goes into the tub - you’ll need to pull with some force

While you have the Toe Panel off, you might as well clean out the Pump filter assembly - simply unscrew the large white plastic knob being sure to have a large bowl to capture the water and grime. I found 3 buttons, a hair pin and 16 cents in change in there!

Hope this saves time/money/aggravations for others!

It was a piece of a towel that got ripped in the washer. It was stuck between the washer and I’m guessing the drain for the detergent dispenser. It was a bit challenging to get it out, but finally managed to do it with a the stake from my son’s tent. Thanks for the help! It’s back to working! Thanks!

Miaec,

Great job,

Glad you’re up and running.

A lot of good information in these posts, They will be in the repair forum for quite a while and should be a great help to others.

Thanks for the update,

Dear rrepairmee,
I have the exact same problem, but I am having problems understanding your directions. I currently have the toe panel off, but not sure where the control panel is after that? Is the the digital one the front of the machine? Or is it behind the toe panel? I would appreciate any help I am trying to help save my mom another repair bill. I APPRECIATE IT!!! Thanks!!!

This totally worked for me. So awesome! Thank you rrepairmee! It was a sock in there for me. Direction were clear and easy to follow!

Thanks for the post. I took out the detergent door and found an undisolved All Mighty Pac in there. Removed it and now it works fine! Hopefully this well help someone else out!

Allyd,
Thanks for the update. We’re sure it will come in handy for others reviewing the Repair Forum.

Thanks Again

my leak is a small amount of water below the drawer side of the washer not sure what to do

Tom, There are two things to check, right off. First remove the complete drawer assembly and check for debris(undissolved detergent, bottle cap seals, etc). If all’s OK, remove the top panel and check the fill hose from the dispenser to the tub, make sure it’s not clogged with the same debris.

Occasionally, an article can get between the tubs and get caught on the end of the fill hose, you may need to carefully remove the hose from the tub and check for an article.

You guys rock! No technical skill and fixed it in under 30 minutes. If you’re ever in winnipeg beer is on me!

Jayblade,

We are glad we could help you out. We hope all stays well .

Thanks Again,

Does anyone know how to replace the dispenser hose to the tub? I have a slice in my hose, and am worried about inserting a new hose into the tub…

Bobby, Presumably you mean the tub top shower hose

There’s nothing to be worrysome about installing the new hose, or removing the original. It’ll be easier if you disconnect the end of the hose from the dispenser. Then grasp the hose as close to the tub as possible, and pinch it together and pull up and out on the hose. You need to make sure you get the whole assembly removed from the tub opening, and don’t tear or loose the retainer end of the hose inside the tub. A dab of liquid detergent on the rubber flange will hwlp to make it easier to install the hose, but just reverse the process, pinch the hose and insert the flange and work it until it seats and seals, then attach the end of the hose to the dispenser, try to keep any kinks or twists from developping in the hose. Good Luck.

I was wondering how much of a tilt would cause this problem. The back right hand corner is about 1 inch higher than the front left corner where the detergent dispenser is. I haven’t found anything blocking yet.

Dlrepp, Under certain installations (basements garages etc.) that can happen. As long as the washer cabinet is level, in both directions you’re OK.

If the washer is higher in the back, it could cause water to flow improperly and flow out the front of the dispenser, or accumulate and cause a problem.

Remember to remove the dispenser drawer, and check for any debris that may have accumulated under the drawer, and may be blocking the tub inlet hose.
