Whirlpool Duet detergent drawer question

I purchased a Whirlpool Duet frontloader last month. I really like the machine and have a question concerning the normal operation of the detergent drawer. I recently noticed that when I add detergent before starting the cycle the detergent immediately starts to drain into the tub. I can see the liquid detergent running down the inside of the glass door. Is this normal operation? Thanks in advance for any help.

Most detergent dispensors have to fill up to a certain point with water then once it goes over the top of a certain point then it goes into the tub…if the detergent starts going down immediately as you pour it in doesn’t sound right but i could be wrong every once in awhile manufactures do things differently but that doesn’t sound right if the water in the top of the dispenser isn’t going. May have a crack in the drawer? Pull drawer out and have a quick examination. If no cracks it may just be normal.

It did not look right to me either. I only have the washer for about a month but I seem to recall the detergent level staying put. I noticed it yesterday when I put in some softener after putting in the soap. I looked back and the level was low. I thought I had put more in there so I added some thinking I was mistaken and proceeded to watch it drain down. I will try to get in touch with Whirlpool tomorrow and get their opinion.

After pulling out the drawer as suggested for inspection I observed how the drawer works for powder and liquid detergents. Just had to make sure it was fully seated in the right position.

I recently just started using this machine and having the same issue. So how to fix it or it’s the way the machine operating? If it’s normal then it’s a bad design because the detergent ran down to the bottom without mixing up with water. I sat in front of the washer the entire the washing cycle and noticed not much soap being used at all. I think I just add the detergent directly into the drum next time then.
