Whirlpool Dryer Won't Start

My whirlpool dryer, model GEW9250PWO, won’t start. The sensing light on the control panel comes on and you hear a click but the dryer doesn’t turn on or run. Any ideas what the problem might be? I’d like to order parts and repair it myself if possible.

And here is a manual should be a close match to your unit.

You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

At the top of my list would be a broken belt or a blown thermal fuse, both of them kill power to the motor.
Check for a broken belt.

Check the thermal fuse on the blower (Item 59 in Section 3).

Unplug the unit and check the fuse with a meter should be 0 ohms.

Jiggery Pokery method is.
Unplug the unit.
Remove both wires from the fuse, short them together and tape them up so they will not short to the frame.
Plug the unit in and give it a try.

If blown, replace the fuse ASAP as it is a critical safety device re: prevents lint fires which can turn into house fires.

Also clean/check your vent system and the blower as these are the most common causes of it blowing.
