I have a whirlpool ultimate care 2 Dryer that will not come on. the timer ticks.The light comes on inside, but when I push to start nothing happens.

Light on + timer ticking tells us the dryer has power, so something in the start-up chain is open. On this model the three parts that fail most often are:

  1. Thermal fuse (white, two wires, on the blower housing). Unplug dryer, pull one wire, meter it for continuity. Open = blown. Replace the fuse and clear the vent or it will blow again.
  2. Door-switch motor contacts. The light circuit can still work even if the motor side of the switch is bad. Door closed → COM to NO should read 0 Ω. If it reads open, replace the switch.
  3. Push-to-start switch in the console. While you press the button the two terminals must read closed. If they stay open, swap the switch (or fix the wiring).
