A Whirlpool Duet dryer, such as model WED9450WW0, that is stuck on “Sensing” may be caused by a blown thermal fuse, faulty door switch, or a tripped drive motor relay. A hard reset may clear a control glitch, but if a component has failed, the motor usually will not run.

The simplest checks are:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Unplug the dryer for 10 minutes, then plug it back in and see if the issue returns.

2. Check the Door Switch

Inspect the door switch button. It should protrude from the opening and not appear damaged. Press the switch in and release it. If it does not spring back on its own, the door switch needs to be replaced.

3. Check the Circuit Breaker

Verify that the dryer’s circuit breaker has not partially tripped. A dryer can sometimes receive enough power for the control panel to operate while lacking the full power needed to run the motor or heater. Reset the breaker by turning it fully OFF and then back ON.

4. Listen for a Click When Pressing Start

Press Start and listen carefully. A single click from the control panel area can indicate the control is attempting to start the dryer but another component, such as the thermal fuse, motor relay, or motor itself, is preventing operation.

5. Enter Diagnostic Test Mode

To help identify the exact failing component or any stored error codes, place the dryer into Diagnostic Test Mode:

  • Ensure the dryer is in Standby Mode (plugged in with the display off).

  • Within 5 seconds, press:
More Time → Less Time → More Time → Less Time

  • If successful, all console indicators will illuminate and the display will show 88.

  • Any stored error codes (such as F25 or F28) will then appear.

If the dryer remains stuck on “Sensing,” please let me know:

  • Do you hear a single click immediately after pressing Start?

  • Can you spin the drum by hand? Does it have normal resistance, or does it feel unusually loose?

  • Have you verified that the circuit breaker is not partially tripped?

  • Are there any error codes displayed in Diagnostic Mode?

These details can help determine whether the problem is a blown thermal fuse, faulty door switch, failed motor relay, Broken belt, drive motor issue, or a defective control board.
