Dishwasher would not start one night after pressing the normal cycle and then start button. It would go straight to the cancel/drain and could hear the humming drain sound. Pressed all the cycles and will do the same. Called technician who came over and said we needed a new control panel board. Priced it at $135.55 here in Hawaii so said no. Went online and found one for $82.00 so decided to change it rather than buy a new one. Replaced it today and same thing is happening. Read somewhere online to do a diagnostic run by hitting heated dry, sanirinse, heated dry sanirinse. It caused all the buttons to turn on and go through a cycle, but again it does the same thing. Used kitchen sink to fill up the dishwasher to test it and the float in the right corner works fine and closed door and it drains fine. Did we just waste $82.00 on the control microprocessor when it was really the actual control panel - even more expensive a part?
Had the exact same problem with my 2+ yr old Whirlpool DW, also ordered a new control board and it did not fix the problem. To make a long story short, found out that the connector between the control panel and the control board has a loose contact somewhere. I tightened the connector/crimped it to the green wire strip and got it to work again for a day or two, but then had the same problem. I’ve been able to get it to work again, but I pretty much have to open it up and re-tighten or just touch the connector every time to get it to work. Still working on it while I try to decide if it’s worth fixing or getting another DW. Works great when it works, but it’s a pain when it doesn’t.
