When I start my washer it does not go through the cycles and makes a humming/grinding sound. I checked the water outlet and it seemed like it was turned off as the valve was horizontal not veritical like the other valves. Please advise on possible solutions as I have been waiting all day for the repair company to call and schedule to get here,

Which way would the valve show open, verticle or horizontal? There is no water when i ran the washer.
Probably horizontal.
