Whirlpool dishwasher

Thanks for the reply. The original problem (and current) is the dishwasher fills up but the does not start the cycle it just shuts off.

So I followed the procedure in this thread to clean out the Chopper. I did not take the pump motor out, looks like the chopper only fits one way. I inspected the check valve and it looked ok so I put it back. Could the rubber be fatigued even tough it looks good?

any advice on what to check next would be appreciated.

I would pull the dishwasher and check the main pump/motor. THis is a 115 volt motor you can power up with a “cheater” cord. If you have a meter you can check for missing power at various places.

Thanks I will give that a try.

Slightly off topic - I’m having a problem (apparently) with the sump-pump gasket - our dishwasher has been leaking from underneath. I had a Kitchenaid/Whirlpool repair guy come out and stated he was 100% confident that the sump pump gasket was the culprit but it would be $300 in labor to repair and only a $20 part.

It sounds like the whole dishwasher needs to be unhooked (unfortunately the electrical was hard-wired into the dishwasher by the previous owner of our house), and the whole sump pump removed. Before I do this I wanted to check with the experts here on the viability of a novice do-it-yourselfer going at it. Here’s the part I think I need: WHIRLPOOL Gasket, Pump sump

Input would be great.

You can find the complete instructions in the tech sheets.

[quote=richappy;8410]Just looked at one of these today, when you put the chopper back in, make sure it engages the motor impeller, if not, it is worn out and you will have to get a new one. Also, the drain pump and main pump alternate on and off to back flush the screen: a check valve allows this.
The check valve is on the right side of the chopper, a black thing stuck in the housing.

How can I check to make sure the chopper is engaging the motor impeller? The chopper blade seems to turn quite easily. I am wondering if this is what is causing the reduced water pressure so that the top rack in not getting cleaned.

You have a busted chopper, just pull out and check.

I pulled the chopper assembly, compared to a new one and it does not appear to be broken in any way. It also does engage the impeller when it is in place. Should I be testing the motor next? If so, I am not sure how to do that. Can you help?

You might have a clog going to the upper spray arm. You also may have a low water level, just dump an extra gallon in to see if it works

Hi,

I followed this thread. I took out and cleaned chopper, still making a terrible noise when washing. Not sure what else might be the problem?
In fact the noise didn’t change at all when cleaned chopper. I took botom cover off and it just sounds awful under the machine.
Thoughts?

You probably have stuff stuck in the motor pump, will have to pull dishwasher to pull it off.

How is lower washarm removed to access the previous mentioned procedure?

Marc,

What is the complete model number of the dishwasher?

What exactly is wrong?

Remove the water feeding tube for the upper spray arm.
Remove 4 screws (#3 on the break down diagram) holding the top cover (#1 on the break down diagram).
Remove the inlet protector (#8) holding by the tab on the right side.
Check the chopper (#6) for any clog.
Clean all debris and assemble in the reverse order.

Hi Gene, thanks for all th info. We got to the part where we need to remove the 4 screws, but we can’t get to the 4th screw because it’s underneath the water supply tube. How do you get to the 4th screw? Do you have to get the water supply tube off? We don’t want to break anything. Our model number is Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner II GU2300 XTSBO. Any help would be appreciated.

Steve,

You quoted my post but you probably did not read carefully. In the beginning it says: “…Remove the upper dish rack.
Remove the water feeding tube for the upper spray arm…”

My Kenmore model # 665.13482K901 dishwasher was hardly even wetting the dishes. At the beginning of every new wash cycle, it would fill with water, then run for about 10 seconds, stops and fills with more water and then starts again. But, it still isn’t enough water. I tried adding extra water with a bucket as suggested here and the dishwasher is spraying all the dishes as it should be.

How can I set the correct amount of fill water in this dishwasher? Thanks.

Sounds like the problem is a bad water inlet valve. You can try to clean the screen inside it but the best solution is to replace it.

I have a whirlpool GU2400xtps1 and the chooper get filled with debris on a weekly basis. When i clean the chopper the dishwasher cleans well for a week. What could cause the chooper to get clogged so frequently?

Try to turn the chopper, if it turns freely, it’s bad, must turn with the motor impeller.

The chopper is new. Only the outside metal wings? spin. I’m thinking it may be the check valve but why would the check valve fail. I’ve read that there is something that is supposed to flush the chopper. Maybe it is not being flushed properly?
