Just bought a refurbished whirlpool direct drive. The agitator make a ratcheting noise on small load but not so much on large load. The dogs appear to be fine. Just don’t remember my Direct drive 40 years ago making this noise.
Can u provide me with the model # of your washer
The sticker is under the back edge of the lid on the lid opening I can see part of it under the back edge of the lid
Ok there are three possibilities and you’d need to take the agitator completely out and apart to inspect the different components.
- Stripped agitator where it splines onto transmission out put shaft. (Whirlpool WP3347288 Washer Agitator Base | Genuine OEM Part)
- Damage to upper agitator (Whirlpool WP3348752 Washer Upper Agitator Clothes Mover | Genuine OEM Part)
- Damage to entire agitator cam assembly (Whirlpool 285811 Washer Agitator Cam Repair Kit | Genuine OEM Part)
It works perfectly. I just don’t remember the ratcheting sound on the one I had years ago.
Yeah they make that sound as the transmission goes back and forth and the dogs catch and release. Some are louder than others, especially if they have a little age and wear on them
Thanks for your help. I’ll just love it like it is and be glad it actually fills up with water unlike me HE did.
lol true. You can try spraying a little dry graphite lube in it and see if it helps
