Where are the bearings?

I am trying to find bearings for the outer tub assembly on my Maytag washer. Seems that I have to buy the entier tub assembly to get them. Is there somewhere that I can get just the bearings:cool:

Ken,
I have changed the Outer Tub Bearings and the Spinner Support bearings on my Series 10 Machine FAV6800A. See this post where I helped a couple of owners thru the process; FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement

These were series 10 and 11 machines. The Outer tub design in these two machines and my Series 10 used an Upper bearing ring with the Clutch Pulley configuration. This made the replacement of the Outer Tub bearings straight forward. Two 6207-2RS bearings just look for best price. I spent somewhere around $12 to $15 for two delivered to the house. Punch out the old and pound in the new. These two owners also did as I did and replaced the Spinner Support bearings.

You need to check your machine and see if your machine uses the Upper bearing ring. You have to pull the front cover off and inspect. Also the first two digits of your machines serial number is the Series of your machine. If you can pass that info along from your machine.

I’ll post a pic of Clutch Pulleys from a Series 10 machine on the left and a Series 16 machine on the right. The Series 16 machine did not use the Upper Bearing One-Way Roller Clutch bearing ring and because of that has a slightly different Outer Tub design.

What’s the current price of the Outer Tub…… $450 range. I would go the Outer Tub re-build route in a heartbeat. Pick a pair of 6207-2RS bearings Tub Seal and Tranny O-ring maybe $40 range. If you need to throw in a Clutch Pulley p/n 25001169 I can find for less than $80.

If your FAV6800A has the Clutch Pulley configuration with no Upper Bearing ring then we need to discuss what the next step is. Remove the front panel to inspect and comment back on what you find.

Hello Dick.
I have a series 16 machine. When I removed the outer tub bearinge there were two upper bearings, 1 sealed, and 1 roller, and 1 lower. Do i replace both uppers with 6002RS ? And what is the supply source for these bearings?

Best Regards
Ken.

Hey Ken,

Did your Clutch Pulley have the upper bearing ring? I need to know that.

The 6002-2RS bearing is agitator shaft bearing at the tranny end of the agitator shaft. The caged bearing is the Clutch Pulley end of the agitator shaft.

You have your Outer Tub out of the machine and you have punched out the Outer Tub Bearing’s is that correct?

If we are talking about the Outer Tub bearings did the lower Bearing look like the pic’s below?

I have to leave for a bit will revist you response later today…Dick

Hello Dick.
Yes the clutch has the upper bearing, however I have a new clutch. I have allready removed the bearings from the outer tub, and they are in pretty bab shape. The tub is in good shape, I just need to locate a source for the tub bearings. What you are showing in the pictures is exactley what I need , are you able to tell me where I can get them? I will buy a new machine befor spending $480.00 for a new tub. Your help is very appericated.

Are you going to replace the Spinner Support bearings?

““What you are showing in the pictures is exactley what I need””
Just to clarify the bearing assembly I show in the pics is not the 6207-2RS. That bearing assembly comes from the FAV6800A and FAV9800A that have a Clutch Pulley that does not use the Upper One-Way bearing ring.

You can keep this machine in service for a very long time with the type of low cost rebuild you are doing. Just need to catch that Tub Seal before it takes out everything below it.

I find a lot of used parts out there if you ever need a Control Board, Console, Motor Controller, etc.

Hi Dick.
The clutch for my machine looks like the one on the right in the picture that you sent. When I orderded it, it came with a seperate bearing attached to a white nilon spinner with two tabs on top. A note in the box said to discard this for my machine, seems like a waste.I will order the spinner suport bearing and replace it as I have the machine this far down.

Thanks for your help.

Ken.

I miss understood. I thought your machine used the Upper Bearing ring above the clutch pulley as mounted on your replacement.

I have not changed out Outer Tub bearings in a machine with the redesigned Outer Tub. You have that tub if you don’t use the Upper Bearing ring. I have mentioned this on other post in this forum but I missed this in your description.

I should have been more tuned in. You can still replace the that Outer Tub bearing that is the one with the intergrated One-Way Roller bearing …but I have never replaced one of that type.

Please Google this FAV6800AW, SN#15… top loader Unit is very

Read thru what this forum member had to do to replace I believe the Lower Outer Tub bearing that has the split bearing assembly. There is no bearing part to be found anywhere from what I and the Series 15 owner researched. That owner used the 6207-2RS bearings for both the Lower and Upper Outer Tub bearing . You will read that he had to shim out the Lower Outer Tub Bearing that I believe used that intergrated/split Outer Tub bearing (and if you can confirm) so that the Spinner Nut would torque down properly. Place both bearing side by side and you will see the intergrated bearing is thicker then your original 6207 DU Upper Outer tub bearing.

I would like to stay with you on your rebuild if you decide to go forward… Dick

This post thru me off ““Yes the clutch has the upper bearing”” I thought you were saying the Clutch Pulley in your machine used the Upper Bearing ring that sits above the Clutch Pulley. Again I was not tuned to your post #4 that was my fault.

Again Google the fix for an Outer Tub design that you have

Hi Dick.
So what I think I have read, and what you are asying is that I will need 3 of the 6207 bearings, 1ea for the upper, and 2ea for the lower, and that I will need to shim the lower bearings to compensate for the thickness of the original lower bearing? I can do that, just want to order proper parts and conferm that this is the solution. Do you have # for spinner supprot bearing?

Thanks.

Ken,

You will only need QTY (2) 6207-2RS only two.

““FAV6800AW, SN#15… top loader Unit is very”” if you cant find the post I will post a direct link.

It is important that you understand that one of the bearings in the Outer Tub is a split bearing. One half of that bearing assembly is a standard ball bearing the other half of that bearing is a One-Way bearing.

Maytag in their infinite wisdom moved the functionally of the Upper One-Way bearing ring to I believe the Lower Outer Tub bearing. That bearing assembly cannot be found with all the looking I did.

You will uses a standard 6207-2RS bearing QTY (2) one for the Upper and one for the Lower Outer Tub bearing . From this post ““FAV6800AW, SN#15… top loader Unit is very”” please read all comments that the Series 15 owner had to do with his Outer Tub bearing replacement……you will have to do the same thing. You will have to shim out that Lower Bearing when you install the Spinner Nut because of the bearing thickness of the Maytag change in Outer Tub design.

Ken,

The INA SCE-910 caged needle bearing for the Lower Spinner Support bearing (Clutch Pulley side) was purchased from these folks.

““I got the INA SCE-910 caged needle bearing from Eureka Bearing Inc. Hunting Beach Ca. 714-895-3555 just tried the number and went to their VM. Their p/n for the SCE-910 seems to penciled in on the box as J-910.””

Are we clear on what you have to do for replacing that split bearing assembly in your Outer Tub rebuild?

Hello Dick.
I have compleated the outer tub rebuilb that we were going over on my maytag neptune FAV6800AWQ. Everything went as we had talked about, and seems to run like new. However it only runs through short spin cycles after starting it up, never had a problem with the electronics before
Is there a sequance that I need to go through to re-set the electornics after the power was turned off to the unit?

Best Regards

Ken.

Ken,

Before I answer that question “”it only runs through short spin cycles after starting it up, never had a problem with the electronics before””.

I asked if your lower Outer Tub bearing was the dual bearing assembly (was one half of the lower Outer Tub bearing a ball bearing assembly and the other part of the bearing a One-Way bearing) making up the Lower Outer Tub bearing as I show in the pic of post #4 (permalink)?

If the Lower Outer Tub bearing was of that type you had to shim out when you replaced it with the 6207-2RS bearing. If you shimed out what did you use for shims, their thickness and how many?

OK your question; “”it only runs through short spin cycles after starting it up, never had a problem with the electronics before””

Let’s make sure I understand. You select a wash cycle and (with other settings selected) and you press the Start button. Are you saying the machine does not fill with water and run the wash/agitate cycle but goes directly into a short Spin Cycle?

If you can give me all the detail you can and we will proceed with troubleshooting. There is nothing to reset on the Control Board.

I assume nothing is binding after the Outer Tub rebuild. By that I mean with the front cover off and looking down on the Clutch Pulley can you rotate the Clutch Pulley by hand CCW and after a few turns the wash basket should rotate CCW. If you then rotate the Clutch Pulley CW the Tumblers will rotate all with no binding is that correct?

Thru the Lid can you rotate the Wash Basket CCW only is that correct?
I work nights Tue thru Sat 4PM to 12:30AM here on the East Coast. I will try to reply ASAP on your response…Dick

Ken,

Doing this with my three thousand mile long screw driver is difficult for me most of the time.

When you mounted your Clutch Pulley did you use the Upper Bearing One-Way Roller Clutch bearing ring?

You have to use that Upper Bearing One-Way Roller Clutch bearing ring when mounting your Clutch Pulley because you have converted back to the old Maytag Outer Tub design… undoing their redesign back to a more sensible Outer Tub Design using 6207-2RS Outer Tub Bearings for both the Upper and Lower Outer Tub bearings. Ken.

When you have time can you explain?

Which Shaft nut? Spinner Support?

You can educate me now…can you explain what shims you used for the Lower Outer Tub bearing, their thickness and how many, where did you pick them up or did you home brew the shims?

I assume you had to use them and that you reassembled using the Upper Clutch bearing ring above the Clutch Pulley. Is that correct? This info will help other FAV6800A/FAV9800A owners and me with the redesigned Outer Tub.

Thank you…Dick

Hi Dick.
I did not use the upper clutch bearing, as I could not get it to fit properly. There is not enough room for the assembly. I will have to see how this works out. As for the shims, I went to Low’s and found some brass rings used to mount door knob assembley, they look like large washers used in eletrical braker boxes to adjust conduit size. I used 4 of these as they were the perfict fit.Can you tell me the spinners in the drum have pointers on them, do they need to be oriented in a certan way?

Ken.

Hey Ken

“”
Can you tell me the spinners in the drum have pointers on them, do they need to be oriented in a certan way?“”'

On page 39 of the SM they show the alingment of the tumblers. My untouched Series 17 id not dead on. I don’t feel it will be an issue if they do not align dead on.

Thank you for the feed back. With out that upper one-way bearing installed can you try this? With the washer lid up can you rotate the Wash Basket in the CW direction.

If so while your washer is in wash/agitate the tumblers rotating. Can you release the washer top from the base and see if it is rotating CW during the wash/agitate cycle?

I assume your Outer Tub did not have notches in the bottom of the tub is that correct?

You read what the Series 15 owner had to do. I don’t see what would keep your wash basket from rotating slow CW rotations during the wash/agitate part of the wash cycle. I’m scratching my head.

Thank you… Dick

Dick and other members- I did a little follow up on post #18 and have some specs to share. I also plan on installing the early type bearings into a late model tub. (series #16) I did not find any automotive transmission or differential shims that were close in size to the door knob shims recommended in post 18. What the fellow above discovered was a set of door knob adapters acted as the needed thickness to take up the differences in old bearing design verses later designed housing bore depth. Lowe’s has a set of door knob to deadbolt adpaters that do indead look like breaker box conduit shims. (that is how I found them and recognized them when I found them) They are item number 1165 in the door knob aisle. There 2 per pack and the fellow above used a total of 4 to complete his washer repair. The O/D is 2 & 3/16". The I/D is a hole 1 & 1/2" diameter. The thickness of the 2 adapters in the blister pack is 3/16" total. All 4 shims would = 3/8" total shim pack thickness for what it’s worth. I say if it works why fight it. This will be my first approach when it is time to replace my tub bearings. This is especially important given that the late model bearings do not seem to exsist. As a side note Dick walked me through the “service mode” function and was curious of my cycle count when trouble started. This unit is 6 years old and has done 3735 cycles when the drive clutch needed a quick “rebuild”. I am sure a tub seal and tranny o-ring are in the near future. Hopefully I can reseal the unit prior to any water damage to the tub bearings. Dave
