What should I test next to fix my stove?

I had the bake element go on my stove. I bought the replacement and it wouldn’t work. Someone suggested testing the high limit switch for continuity. After some difficulty locating it I found it (thanks to bf1) and it tested fine. So… Where do I go next to fix this stove? I also tested the oven sensor (fine).

Thanks

Here is a service manual
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag_library/docs/16010191.pdf

It is a little confusing as it covers a lot of units so take extra care to be sure that the info is referring to your unit.

Odds are the problem is on the relay board.
Try running he diagnostics.

Thanks Denman

What page in the manual is the diagnostics referenced?

1-3, I think!!

Thanks denman. In your opinion, and anyone else, I see a relay board is going to cost me over $200. Plus another $60 or so for the element. Would you spend that for a 10 year old stove?

IMHO (for what it’s worth) it depends on what type of range you would replace it with. If you gonna replace it with a $399 special from Home Depot, then no, it’s not worth it to spend $250 on a 10 year old model. If you will replace it with a $2000 high end model, then maybe so. Jennaire is a pretty high end brand. I had a range that lasted 20+ years one time with little trouble.

When you decide, post it up. I’ll be curious to see what you decide. I’m going through a similar struggle right now.

Good luck!

I decided on not repairing it. There were two reasons: first, the cost and the fact that there was no guarantee the other board wasn’t going to go which would add another 80 or so. Second, I was trying to keep the stove as a second oven in a basement kitchen. But, for that purpose, I could buy a brand new stove for roughly the same dollars. So, to the curb it went! Good luck with your decision.
