We have one glass top burner that starts smoking when turned on

Whirlpool glass top electric oven burner - Rf368lxkb  Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years

We have one burner that starts smoking when turned on. The other 3 and stove works fine. How would I test the components to figure out if it is the burner, switch or other component? Model - Rf368lxkb

Where does the SMOKE come from? I have never seen a glass-top smoke before??? If the smoke comes from the top of the console, its the switch,If it comes from under the top its either the burner or the limiter.

It comes from under the glass top itself. I do not see a part called a limiter on the parts diagram/list Model RF368LXKB1

WOW!!!, you will have to lift the top and find the problem. Open the range door, There should be 2-4 screws going up into the top, remove the screws and GENTLY lift the top, PLUG the range back in, Prop up the range top and turn on the burner, you should be able to see the problem!!

you don’t think i should swap switches? I thought maybe the switch wasn’t working properly in distributing the power to the burner or is that what the limiter does? thank you so much for answering.

I pulled the infinate switch out of the stove and tested with this handy article.

Just google -how to test an Infinite control switch - This post will not let me put the competitor’s url in the post…

The switch is bad.

Thank you Drags1998 for being the only one to respond to both of my posts.

With digs like this, it really makes me want to help people FOR FREE! sheesh..

The element under the unit was burnt out which fryed the switch/temp regulator.
