Water will not fill up in Dishwasher

Good morning-

I have a GE dishwasher that will not fill up all the way-

Thus far - I pulled the dishwasher out ( very good access to unit) - and cleaned the main screen - pulled the motor housing off and saw the motor spin - - cleaned all of the house connections (not the intake value)

I then put a gallon the dishwasher during the initial cycle and it worked well - sprayed water strong- it drianed AOK - but of course did not refill when the rinse cycle came on

I found the float switch and held it in the up position - no water came our during startup ( as expected) - and then held it down and the water came out but still stopped during the startup process even though I had is held down - not enough water to clean the dishes-then the motor kicked on-

my thinking was that the float would control the water level ?

Water pressure from the house is fine-when the water does come into the dishwasher it is slow and not streaming at the full capacity of the power of the house pressure -I am thinking the next step is to clean the screen on the intake valve- then replace the value?

we did recnetly go thru a kitchen renovation so there may be a slight chance that some dust may have gotten in the main feed but not sure if that can cause the above

thanks for your input-

The float is a safety device to prevent water overflow. In normal condition the water level controls by a timer.

Cleaning the screen might help, but replacing the water inlet valve is much better solution.

  • The part number for the water inlet valve is AP2039343

I have the exact same problem, but I just changed the intake valve and it still isn’t filling. Any other ideas?

Make sure the pressure in the house water line is good and the water shut off valve for the dishwasher does not reduce the pressure.

For any further assistance we need the complete model number of the dishwasher.

Gene thanks for responding. My dishwasher is a GE GHDA475M00CS. The pressure from the hose is great. Shut off valve is not causing a problem, filled the bucket up just fine when I had the valve off. Is it a timer problem on the circuit board?

Tausha,

You have to hear when the water comes into the dishwasher. Try to count the fill time and post it.

The water filled for 43 seconds when the motor kicked in. It wasn’t very full. If I add 3-4 additional quarts of water each time it fills, it washes great.

43 seconds is definitely not enough. Possible the water inlet valve stays energized after the motor kicked in. Try to redo this test by counting the fill time by checking the voltage to the water inlet valve.

If the fill time is still about the same, replace the control board.

i have a ge dishwasher and have replaced the water inlet valve and still the water doesn’t fill completely i have run the diagnostic switch test and it fills up properly. is it possible the mother board works in the test mode, but not in the normal mode?
