Water still in tub or clothes still soaking wet after cycle.

This does not happen all the time but now and then after the washing cycle is completed (indicator in Off), there is still water in the tub or the clothes are still soaking wet. If I turn the knob all the way around to just after thr Rinse mark, it will drain the water and go into the spins cycle and completes the wash OK. The pump must be OK and the water valve and level switch must both be OK since this phenomenon does not happen during rinse phase of the wash cycle. I already replaced the timer but still no joy. I need some answers to the following questions.

  1. Is the water pump mechanically connected to the motor or is it timer controlled?
  2. Does the washer drain by gravity first or does the pump do all the drainng?
  3. In the schematic diagram I see a water valve but no drain valve. So what keeps the water from draining during the wash and rinse phases?
  4. My drain discharge hose empties into a pipe which is higher than the machine. It has always been that way but doesn’t that present too much of a back pressure for the pump to push?

Ok, if you click on your model number you will see an exploded view of your machine which should help. As far as your questions are concerned,

The water pump is belt driven from the motor. The fact that the discharge hose is higher than the tub keeps water from going out when it is filling and agitating, there is no valve. The pump does all the work to drain the tub, and it is strong enough to take the water out so don’t worry about back pressure.

Now as far as your problem is concerned, it is a bit of a mystery. If after the agitation cycle in wash the tub does not spin because the motor has not engaged, then it will not drain. The fact that it would complete the fill, rinse agitate, spin and drain portion indicates a timer problem, but you have already replaced that so that leaves us mystified. When we are mystified the problem is usually an electrical circuit one, which are hard as the dickens to find.

Do a visual examination of all of the wires going to the motor, and take off the motor/wire connection, clean the connectors with a good electrical contact cleaner, check the wires for continuity and put things back together.

That’s all I got.

If there is no drain valve and the pump which is mechanically connected to the motor through the belt continues to run, what’s preventing the tube to drain during wash and/or rinse cycles?
