The water flow for cold water comes in as just a dribble. Hot water comes in full force. this is an intermittant problem that started a couple of weeks ago and seems to be getting more frequent.
A couple of possibilities here, none of them difficult or expensive to fix.
-
Take off the cold water hose and stick it in the machine or sink and turn on the valve, see if water is coming out. If not the problem is in your water line.
-
Check the inlet screen inside the cold water valve, it is easy to get clogged.
-
Take off the cabinet check to make sure 120v is coming to the valve when it is supposed to be on (cold water wash fill or rinse fill).
-
If all checks out, replace the valve assembly, this part here

This video will show you how to remove the cabinet to get to the valve.

We took the cold water hose off of the machine and cleaned out the filter. That seems to have fixed our problem.
Great, thanks for the update
the washer continued with the intermittent water flow problems so we replaced the intake valve and, while we were at it, the water hoses. I think the washer is fixed, but one of the water cut off valves (that are attached to the house) was leaking and we broke it when we tried to replace it. My husband is at the hardware store trying to get the correct part to fix it now so that we don’t have to call in the plumber.
Well this is good in that it broke while you were there, and not while you were out for days or weeks. Check the other one too, its a good idea to replace both since problems with one may mean problems with the other in the future.
Sounds like you have the washer repair under control. Great!
