Our Kenmore fridge has a constant water dispenser leak. We currently have turned the water off to the fridge. The ice tray was filling fine. The water dispenser was working–it turned on and dispensed water. It was just that the dispenser kept dripping after you got water. What is wrong?
The water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in may be leaking. You can disconnect the line there and watch to see if it keeps dripping from the valve.
Maybe I explained the problem wrong. The water dispenser does not leak when the water is turned off, only when the water is on. The water is off right now and the in-door dispenser tube is not leaking.
There is no leak at the back of the fridge or under or anywhere else–just the water dispenser tube.
When you depress the water dispenser button the water inlet valve at the back is opened thus supplying water to the dispenser. If it does not seal there the water will leak out at the dispenser. Disconnect it there to see if it leaks.
Ok. I looked at the back of the fridge. Is the water inlet valve behind and under where the water supply hose brings the water into the fridge? If so, I unscrewed that connection and there was no water leaking at all.
Just to clarify, I unscrewed the plastic nut that is behind a small bluish ‘box’ and connects to the water supply line that takes the water to the filter in the front of my fridge.
Thanks for the help so far.
That sounds right but just to make sure try getting water from the dispenser while it’s disconnected to see if water comes out.
Ok. I disconnected the water inlet valve again and tried the dispenser–no water comes out. Just to make sure I am doing this right–the water supply to the fridge is turned off. I did turn the water back on–just barely–and water definitely came out of the blue valve ‘box’.
So, is the valve in the blue box? or is it in the water line?
Thanks again for all your help.
The valve is in the blue box. Water inlet valve. So if I understand right it did leak through the valve when it wasn’t supposed to or did it come out the valve when you tried the dispenser switch.
With the water supply to the fridge off, the water inlet valve did not leak when I tried to get water out of the dispenser. When I turned the water supply to the fridge on, the water definitely did leak from the valve. With the water supply to the fridge on, since the water leaked from the valve immediately, I did not get a chance to try the dispenser.
I am not sure if you wanted me to check the valve with the water supply off or with the water supply on. So, I checked it both ways. Which way tells you if the valve is not sealing properly?
With the water supply on the valve was leaking so it need to be replaced.
So I need a new valve. I cannot find my fridge on this website and so I cannot find the part. I assume I need a whole new ‘blue box’. Can you help? Does this website have the part?
Also, if you could tell me anything that would help in the disassembly. I am able to figure just about anything out, but it always goes much faster if someone can tell you what to do.
Thanks again for all your help.
Ok. I can’t locate my fridge on this website. Can you help me locate the right part? I am assuming that the whole ‘blue box’ needs to be replaced. Am I correct?
Also, any help you can give me for the install would be appreciated.
Thanks again for all of your help.
