Water collecting in bottom of refrigerator under the vegetable bins. I don’t see any way to remove the back panel. It looks like maybe I could remove the top panel in the refrigerator, under the freezer. I that possible?
you need to fix this problem by accessing the freezer. the drip pan is frozen up and won’t allow it to drain to the drain pan underneath the fridge. once you find this panel, remove and thaw with hair dryer and warm water. do this until the water runs straight thru to the drip pan.
Will I have to remove the icemaker to get to it?
I think it is either under the floor of the freezer or behind the ceiling like you said. Look at these diagrams. The drain hole is in the bottom of the evaporator housing, part 604 in diagram 3. Replacement parts for GE TBF16DGB | AppliancePartsPros.com
This is a fairly common problem. To access evap coils on a top freezer the rear wall has to be removed in the freezer ( yes the ice maker comes off first}. Whirlpool makes a part to help prevent this problem which I believe is just a small metal strip which attaches to the heater element and extends into the drain hole.I have used # 12 solid copper wire to fashion a homemade version which has worked well for me.I hope this is helpful !
Yes, it was the ceiling panel of the refrigerator that needed to be removed. It was very easy to get at. To the person with the Ice Maker, I don’t think it interferes with the ice maker at all. Thanks all for your help.
Would it work to turn off the freezer and let it thaw itself?
