Washing Machine not spinning

My washing machine does everything it is supposed to do. It fills correctly, drains and all that but will not spin. It makes the sounds like it is going to spin but does not. There are not burning smells or anything. What could this possibly be.

Does it agitate?

Eric

It does not. Makes all the noise that it is going to though.

Remove the front panel of the washer and check for a broken belt at bottom of washer between motor pulley and main drive pulley. Pulleys and belt should rotate freely with washer off. If ok, check the blinking LED on top right side of motor/inverter board for error codes. Normal is LED blinking on/off at about 1 second interval. An error is indicated by faster flashing and then off within a 6 second interval. The number of flashes in the 6 second period is the error number.

Looks like the belt is ok, kind of confused though since this dryer if very basic and doesn’t have a screen that build blink.

Also makes a ticking noise like it wants to spin.

Dryer? I thought this was a washer? Anyway, the LED is a very small indicating “lamp” on the top right side of the inverter board. May be easier to view from right side of board.

10 blinks it looks like, had Mom check.

SORRY BUT IT IS 4 BLINKS.

That means the mode shifter has failed. This requires complete disassembly of the machine to replace and you likely need to replace the motor/inverter as well.

So trying to clear the code won’t work. Will it be expensive to have this fixed?

Yes, you can try clearing the code. Unplug washer for one minute, plug back in and open/close the lid several times quickly. If mode shifter is faulty, code will return. Normally, if the shifter fails, the washer motor will still work but the entire basket will go back and forth during agitate mode. That’s why I say you likely need to replace the motor/inverter as well. Parts alone are nearly $400.

bucket does not move at all. It flls and drains and you can hear the engine wanting to move it but doesn’t move.

Does not look good cost wise then. It is just weird that the tub doesn’t move at all but the engine makes all the normal noises. They don’t make things to last any more, that is for sure. Thanks for your help.

Do you know the part numbers I need so I can look up cost. Looks like it may be cheaper to replace it.

Should be another number after the G in the model number. There are versions 0 thru 6.

A washing machine miracle happened last night. Even after trying to clear the error code from the engine several times before, I tried it one last time last night and low and behold the stupid washing machine now spins and agitates. Not sure if this will be temporary but I will take whatever I can get. Hopeing to make it last at least another year. Not exactly sure why it wasn’t working but glad to have it back. Thanks for all your excellent advice and patience.
