Washing Machine Doesn't Spin or Agitate

I have an Amana washing machine and the drum no longer spins. I had this problem a few months ago and I put a new belt on it and it started working again. The first time it happened the belt was spinning and burning. I think it even broke. I think we overloaded the washer and that caused it the first time. A couple of days ago it started to stop spinning again. This time I can see the belt is not spinning, it is actually turning both pullies, the one on the motor and the one on the drum but the drum doesn’t spin. I can see a little bit of water leaking out of the drum just above what I think is the transmission.

The drum seems pretty hard to turn by hand. I don’t think it was that hard to turn before. I am thinking it might have a bad bearing or something but I don’t know for sure. Limited on funds here so I really need to get this fixed as cheaply as possible. I’m a pretty handy guy and usually fix things by myself but I am kinda in uncharted waters here.

If anyone could help I would be forever grateful!!

Sounds like the bearing is damaged due to a water leak. You have to order the hub and seal assembly to fix it. It comes with the instructions.

The model number you posted does not come up. The closest model number I found is ALW880QAW.

Gene.

I figured, I just would like to make sure it wasn’t anything else and waste my money on a bearing, it is like $130. The model number is all smeared, best I could make out that was it but I noticed it didn’t come up either.

Thanks for the help!
