Washer wont Advance Through Cycles

Just bought a lightly used Washing Machine from a friend. (about 2 years old in a vacation home) Worked fine for a couple weeks. Tried to wash a pair of shoes while I ran a few errands in town and came home to find the shoe’s destroyed and the washing machine in the wash cycle still. If I try to start any cycle (regular, delicate, etc) the washing machine will fill up fine and go into the wash cycle but it will not advance past that. I can manually advance the washer into the drain, rinse, and spin cycles one at a time and they seem to work fine other than running non stop till I push the timer nob in. Sounds like a bad Timer Assembly to me but I figured I’d look for some advice from someone with some more experience before I spend the time changing out a hundred dollar part…

Thanks in advanced!
Mike

PS, I doubt it has anything to do with the problem but might be worth mentioning. The washer had bad iron stains from well water when I first got it so I ran a couple loads with only water and “Iron Out” cleaner as instructed by the Iron Out bottle.
Thanks again!

Go ahead and try replacing the timer. If you buy from this site and the timer does not fix the problem you can return it.

Washing machines are not meant to wash shoes, but then you probably know that now.

Good luck.
