Washer will not enter final spin cycle

I’ve been working up a spin problem on a whirlpool washer for the last day.

Issues: (changing to new lid switch and timer did not affect these issues and the timer is advancing normally on own and the issues don’t change whether I manually advance the timer to various cycles or not). What does seem to affect the lack or presence of a spin is the “fabric selector switch”

On high spin setting (“quick wash” and “cottons”): It will spin and drain together (at typical speed, although it takes a longer time to get at high speed spin) after the wash cycle but will only drain and not spin at all, not even create motor noise as if attempting to spin, during “rinse” cycle or “spin” cycle. Yesterday it would inconsistently spin, after normal drainage, on “spin” cycle, sometimes spin and drain at same time. Today no spinning/motor noise at all in “spin” cycle after active drainage in “rinse cycle”. (It also doesn’t spin during the “rinse” while water is coming in.)

On low spin setting ("perm. press’ and “delicates”): It will basically spin both after wash and rinse cycles, but sometimes spins and drains together, sometimes drains first then spins. (This is with lid switch “jumped” or bypassed so I’m not inadvertently triggering the spin at the time of the neutral drain). In this mode, we are still able to do our washing but I am concerned at the inconsistency and wonder if it will all fail soon.

Before taking things apart, especially the transmission, I would like to know if this sounds like a simple fabric selector switch problem or is it more likely a failing neutral drain issue that is just affected differently by the different settings of the fabric selector switch?

Thanks for your helpful advice!

Sounds like it could be a problem with the time or the neutral drain in the gear box. You also posted this in the dishwasher repair board.
