Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: GSQ9344EQ0
Main Symptom: Washer won’t spin unless you open and close lid - timer faulty?
What happens & when:
When the spin cycle on my Whirlpool washer is beginning, I hear the motor engage, but the tub won’t spin unless I lift the lid and shut it, then the tub spins. Everyone I’ve spoken to tells me the timer is faulty. But the timer, #3951912, is discontinued, and I can’t locate a replacement. Can any other timer be used here? I love the direct drive machine and want to keep it if possible.
Error Code (if any):
Parts or tests already tried: new transmission, lid switch good

KHBurner,
Typically when a direct drive washer is not spinning and you have to lift the lid for it to spin then this will most likely be the neutral drain in the gearcase that is faulty. The timer is not an available part. If the unit is draining then the timer would not be the issue.

Hmm, I replaced the transmission a few weeks ago when the machine wasn’t agitating at all, so that part is brand new. What do you think?
If the transmission has been replaced then it would most likely be in the timer. Unfortunately, with it being discontinued there would not be a suitable replacement. You can take the part number and put it into a google search and you may be able to find one, even possibly an aftermarket one.
