My Kenmore washer of 11 years has had no problems. Today, however, it stopped running at the end of the rinse cycle, but before draining. There is a strong electrical burning smell in the upper panel where the control knobs are. The washer will do nothing no matter where you put the timer, as if there was no power to the waher. There is power at the outlet however. I’m thinking it’s the timer. Any ideas? Also, how do you remove that panel’s cover? Since the washer is still full of water, I can’t move it. The washer is 4 inches from the wall. Please help?
Remove the console and the washer cabinet as instructed in the attached file. Inspect the timer for any signs of burn. You have somehow to remove the water from the washer because the pump hoses have to be disconnected in order to check the pump for any foreign objects stuck inside.
If there is nothing wrong then remove the pump and the motor. Check the how the transmission moving in both directions. Post the results.
